SCHKEEPER INC. was founded in 1961 as Marpet Consultants, Inc. From then until the mid 1980’s, management consulting was the primary focus of the firm. During the early 1970’s Peter A. Schkeeper, P.E. worked for the firm as an employee providing engineering and management consulting services. On January 1, 1993 Peter acquired ownership of the firm.

Peter A. Schkeeper, P.E. obtained his Professional Engineering license in 1972. License #GE19632. . He has held leadership positions in community, professional, and industrial organizations. Peter brings forensic engineering to Board oversight of risk management. He has over thirty years of professional engineering, construction, and manufacturing experience including plant and building design and construction, electro-mechanical fluid control component and system expertise for Military, Aerospace, Nuclear Power, Industrial, Analytical Instrumentation and Clinical Instrumentation applications. Peter is an experienced Lead Independent Director of a public company that stimulates strategic planning and creative problem solving. His maritime expertise includes ocean sail and power, waterfront construction, and ship repair. He has taught creative problem solving and has assisted many companies to develop improvement programs for decision making, people development, and, quality and productivity improvement. He has direct experience with many state, national, and international codes. He holds industrial and commercial level NJ code enforcement licenses for building, electrical, plumbing, and EIFS. Peter is a Board Certified Building Inspection Engineer. He is also a certified third party inspector and moisture analyst for EIFS building envelope systems. Peter has managed a US Coast Guard yard and construction base including lighthouse re-construction and has held an Ocean Master's License for sail, power, and towing vessels. The FEMA Coastal Construction Manual lists Peter as one of the engineers they consulted to develop the manual. Peter has written numerous articles. He is the lead author of "The Smart Consumers Guide to Home Buying" published by Barons. He received the NJ Society of Professional Engineers "Distinguished Service Award" in 2009 and in 2010 Peter was named a Fellow in the National Society of Professional Engineers.


SCHKEEPER INC. has a New Jersey Certificate of Authorization, # GA 277698, for Engineering and Building Design. The firm is a member of New Jersey Business and Industry Association and an active member in the Eastern Monmouth Area Chamber of Commerce. 

The firm carries general business insurance and error and omissions insurance for building and residential inspections.
